Third grade continues with a strong emphasis on reading comprehension and the parts of speech, sentence structure, and vocabulary. This is a big year for math as the students strengthen their multiplication and division skills, continue to master math facts, and get some exposure to geometric concepts. Social studies moves beyond the community and uses several activities to help the students better understand the concepts. Science continues to provide hands-on investigations, learning about energy and matter (physical), earth and sky (earth science), and structures of life (life science).
Religion continues with the sacramental life, along with Bible stories and the lives of the Saints.
Third grade auxiliary classes also include art, music, physical education, library, Spanish, and computer. The students traditionally visit St. Mary’s Seminary each year.
