Fourth and fifth grades read novels and short stories in various genres, along with grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and parts of speech. Multiplication and division skills continue to be developed with a greater emphasis on fractions. Manipulatives and online programs further assist students with these studies.
Social Studies focus on Texas history and american history. Activities are inquiry-based, interactive, and integrated with some of the novel studies. Science offers hands-on investigations dealing with energy and electromagnetism (physical), water and landforms (earth), and environments (life science).
Religion includes the opportunity to plan and participate in the weekly liturgy.
Special weekly classes include art, music, physical education, library, Spanish, and computer.
The fifth grade experience also includes a much greater emphasis on time management and organizational skills, aimed at preparing students for their transition to Middle School. A highlight of the fifth grade year is the annual week at the archdiocesan School of Environmental Education at Camp Kappe.
